Shopify vs StoreConnect: Securing Your eCommerce IP and Brand Ownership

The Hidden Clause

At StoreConnect we believe that your data belongs to you, but at Shopify, they sub-license all of your data, for all time, worldwide! Even if you close your account they still retain this right. This includes your trademarks, service marks and logos associated with your Store. It permits them to reproduce and create derivative works of your materials. Furthermore, they can grant this right to whomever they choose.

StoreConnect & Salesforce’s Difference

In contrast, Salesforce in their terms make no such claim “6.3 … SFDC acquires no right, title or interest from Customer or its licensors under this Agreement in or to any Customer Data.”

And we at StoreConnect, per our terms, use the standard approach common to most eCommerce platforms:

• If you are a StoreConnect Subscriber: (a) you license us on an irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide basis to use and publish your StoreConnect Subscriber Data via StoreConnect as required by us to provide you with StoreConnect SaaS;
